Corsets for a cause! [02 Jun 2009|10:02pm]

[ mood | hopeful ]

In light of some really horrible things that have been happening in the lives of my chosen family and friends as of late, I've been feeling really ineffectual. In most of the cases, there's not squat that I can do to change circumstances for them. That said, I'm trying to do my best to assist where and when I can.

Which leads me to the following...

Back in February, I met a terrifically talented grrl (itsroach) and her daughter at a con. She's been making a go of it as a costumer and crafter, but with the economy the way it is, finances have been tight for them. Right now, she's in rather dire straits and is mounting a campaign to raise funds to make sure that she and her family are secure.

Currently (through June 10th) she's offering her custom Victorian corsets that usually sell for $300, for only $150. While I don't know her terribly well, I can wholeheartedly vouch for the quality of her work. They're very well made and sturdily steel boned to provide a lovely display of cleavage...oh...and they're absolutely beautiful!

Take a peek at her work for yourself and read more about her offer...

Even if a new corset is a bit out of your budget, please feel free to cross-post or link to this post. You'll be supporting an independent artisan and getting a great piece of handmade wearable art in the process (for a great price!).

Chicago Visit-- things to do... [01 Apr 2009|06:50pm]

chigirl83
Ok guys, I need some help. I moved away from Chicago 3 years ago, and am going back for a visit starting this Friday and bringing some of my southern (We are in NC) friends with me. I did live there for 5 years, but having trouble remembering the local places, where stuff was located etc. I want to show my friends an awesome time, but not just a "tourist" time. I want to bring them to the great local places on the north, and south, sides.

Tell me all your favorite places for food, coffee, and shopping on the northside-- particulary in Lakeview like in Boystown area, Lincoln park-- armitage stop... and Bucktown.

Im also trying to remember the name of this cute coffee shop in Andersonville-- it was like a travel place.

Also...any fun stuff in Greektown? Any "must see's" that you can think of. Im trying to jar my memory and some stuff is coming, but I need some help from you locals! Also some fun stuff for night life for some semi-conservative people....I know lots of fun night life but probably not up my friends' allies so looking for night life/theater type places for the evening.

Thanks for any help!!!

Weddings? [30 Sep 2008|11:56pm]

relativeatbest
Hi. I hope this is okay to post to this community.

I am looking for a place (within an hour of Chicago) to have my wedding. I have a very low budget, $5000 for about 120-150 people. Basically, I would like to have my ceremony outside, and have a 3-4 hour party with dancing and cake. Of course, I need to feed my guests as well (either appetizers, buffet, or family-style).

Please don't respond with "There is no way you can find that in Chicago." I know that I can do this, I have a few options, but I am looking for more, without having to keep getting to a place and finding out that it costs more than I have to spend.

Thanks in advance!

Queer Performance Art ( Chicago ) [15 Sep 2008|02:46pm]

earthygirrl

(Not sure if I can post this here...if not feel free to delete it mods...and let me know.)

I have been interested in participating in projects within the queer scene for an extended period of time and as of lately I’m really marching strongly in that direction. If anyone has any information or contact that you are willing to share, I’d greatly appreciate it.

Background information and inspirational ideas:Collapse )

 Thanks in advance!

GREAT AMERICA RESERVED THIS COMING SUNDAY! [15 Sep 2008|12:40pm]

GREAT AMERICA!!!

OK...I have two extra tickets for Great America this coming weekend:
Sunday September 28th - the park is reserved ALL DAY for a private event. That means,
NO WAITING IN LINES FOR RIDES!

The weather forecast is Sunny, mid to high 70s (check out my man
Tom Skilling on WGN for cofirmation!).

Ticket Prices: $28 each (that's about half off) - and again, park goers have the park virtually to themselves. I go this event every year and get on all my fav-rides at least twice. I have TWO TICKETS to sell.

Email me if you are interested:
mark40e@yahoo.com

BTW - YES - Marta and I are also going! But you don't have to hang with us...I can get the tickets to you some time this week ~
